Great Scott!
Nigel Lowey
Bromley House Library, Angel Row, Nottingham NG1 6HL
12/07/25 - 11:00
Explore the life and works of celebrated architect George Gilbert Scott; his achievements at both local and national level, and the economic and political drivers of his success, in this new illustrated talk by Nigel Lowey.
"One the most prolific architects EVER, Sir George Gilbert Scott designed the Albert Memorial, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, cathedrals, churches, public buildings, and the Midland Grand Hotel at St. Pancras.
However, this is not just about his buildings: as I researched, the architect became more 'human' and the subject expanded to include the Industrial Revolution, workhouses, the Victorian Revival of the Church of England, Political unrest and the Great Reform Act which changed our electoral system!"
